Home Invasion is not like a typical burglary, in these situations the thieves want to enter when the victims are home. They want to force them to open safes, give PIN numbers, divulge trade secrets, etc. Based on the most recent FBI data, the amount of residential robberies (of any type) rose almost 13% from 2002 to 2006. About 64,000 residential robberies were reported last year. However, many feel this figure is not accurate as it is highly probable that many victims chose not to report the invasion in order to protect their privacy and avoid publicity.

These types of robberies have recently occurred amongst Eddy Curry (professional basketball placer), billion dollar investors Warren Buffet and Ernest Rady, and Anne Bass a prominent socialite.

Officials think these types of robberies are on the rise as security is stepping up in stores, offices, banks, etc and criminals are forced to find other routes, mainly wealthy homes. These is made easy due to the amount of hired help, etc that have access to these kinds of homes, as well as how online things such as facebook now open up a wealth of info about their users.
