Recently real estate followers have been questioning the usefulness of blogs in buying/selling a home. Now these blogs can go numerous ways. It could be blogs made by realtors, showing what homes they have to sell or buy in their client inventory. Blogs can also be made by those who wish to buy or sell themselves: chronicling their journey in this venture.

This has, as many things do, both positive and negative aspects. For some it can be viewed as positive. If you are a realtor and you do a blog it can make you seem more personable and can make potential clients more apt to trust or feel kinsman ship with you. However, this can also be a detribute as sometimes clients look for 100% professionalism and feel this is more of a home grown type of effort. It also provides potential clients with easier access to said inventory. In today’s technology driven world, people are always looking for things that are quick, easy, and hassle free; which to many is the great draw of the net. They can do it from home, plane, wherever! They can also search at their own convenience: no making appointments, going to office, phone calls, blah blah blah. Or course, this also lessons the 1 on 1 opportunity to convince someone to use your services (while at the same time helping out those who maybe aren’t so great at making that convincing person to person deal.

As for those individual property blogs, while it allows them to seek out a wider range of potential options, they can never be sure of who will respond and the same goes for the potential responders. People may be less likely to respond as they could perceive it to be a hoax, or a relatively unsafe situation. Is being more personable, while at the same time having more anonymity the key?

It is also a good question to note as to the level of competition the two types of blogs get: Which gets a home sold or bought faster, a realtor sponsored blog or a blog selling/buying a single property (in other words FSBO or Buy W/O Realty Aide.)?
