A poll was recently made by CNN, to find out how the American public feels about special treatment given to homeowners that have defaulted on their mortgage, in order for them to keep their homes.

The poll was conducted through phone interviews on April 28 to April 30th. Over 1,0008 adults were polled and the survey has a +-3% margin of error.

The results of the poll amounted to indifference, with a almost even ratio on both sides. According to the poll 49% feel special treatment should be made, 48% are against any special assistance, and 3% had no opinion.

The poll also shows that our feelings have not changed that much over time, the poll was also given in December, with 51% being for and 46% against special treatment.

Those that can quality for special assistance, would require a debt cut amounting to no more then 85% if the home´s appraisal value. In the case that any FHA-refinanced loans were defaulted on, the FHA would have to pay the outstanding principal to the lender.
