For a long time now the United States mode of living has been all about independence. Once hitting the age of 18 or the low 20´s our youth has been living the flock and finding their own home. However, due to the problems with our economy, many are having to stay home or return home. An even more increasing trend, is that people with their own kids, or those who are well into adulthood are now having to move back in with their parents, their siblings, or even their own children. In New York, the New York Foundation for Senior Citizens is even helping to match up those with financial needs with other citizens, in a type of residence share, almost like surrogate parents.

In some situations, those in need of a place to stay are being placed with elderly widows, or senior citizens who are alone and without family. While some pay rent, others are allowed to stay in exchange for helping with chores, health care needs, etc.

We may be returning to our past times when a parent´s son/daughter stays home until they get married or can move in with a significant other; also once they know they have 100% financial stability.
