Starting in January 2008, a campaign, the 90 Days of Hope, was introduced. It is a public education campaign to introduce and familiarize homeowners with the options available to them to try and prevent foreclosure. 90 days corresponds to the normal amount of time given to a homeowner, to try and take a course of action after they are informed of the increasing of their interest rate. It is also the amount of time available to create new payment options for any homeowners who contact their lenders prior to missing a payment.

It was started by Governor Schwarzenegger to try and educate and assist Californians facing foreclosure. Many Californians are now seeking active assistance through the organization´s, HOPE hotline. The administrators of the hotline, the Homeownership Preservation Foundation (HPF) recently released statistics showing that there was an almost 300% increase in the amount of homeowners that called the hotline and getting personal one-to-one counseling sessions with their non-profit approved HUD provider. Based on other stats provided by the Department of Corporations, the survey results for July 2008 show that from Nov. to the present, the Governor´s Subprime Mortgage Agreement has had continued success.

Rosario Marin, Secretary of the State/Consumer Services Agency member/ and task force member, remarked on Schwarzenegger´s plan, saying “The Governor has said all along that solving the housing crisis is going to take efforts from both homeowners and lenders. The Foundation’s numbers complement the Department of Corporations’ loan modifications numbers and serve as evidence that the Governor’s efforts have helped motivate homeowners statewide to seek help,...Keeping homeowners in their property is what’s best for their families, their communities and our state.”
