Watch out for the latest technology, it looks as though Google will be going mobile. Having purchased Jaiku, a company known for developing blogging software for mobile phones, Google is now saying they could be launching a Gphone sometime in Feb. 2008.

In the past, Google enterprises have stated that they feel mobile cellulars should be free to consumers, with profit being made through advertising. This is definitely a threat to the current $127 billion dollar wireless industry. An analyst, Avi Greengart, says that "The mobile world has much greater reach than the wired Internet," and that "Google sees this as the future." Who knows what this would make of Google’s relationship with Apple. Having currently worked well in the past, this could make them rivals as Apple is currently in possession of their Apple iPhone.

Logically speaking, a mobile phone is their next step as they have already developed other mobile accessories: video, map tools, Gmail, etc. It is has been rumored that a Gphone prototype is already being or has been developed. However, some analysts, such as Peter Crocker, feel that Google will try to instead partner with smaller carriers firsthand before taking off on their own big branches, or try to make instead more operating systems for existing cell phones.
