Did you just buy a home or are looking to buy one, but are afraid that you will have to shell out a lot of money on appliances? Here are a couple of tips to save money, while maintaining style.

One great way is to buy second hand. Don´t be so quick to shrug off this idea, second hand does not always mean broken, wore down, etc. One of last year´s trends was to buy a home, get rid of the current appliances (no matter their condition), and buy new. That trend left a lot of nice quality appliances in second hand stores.

Another great factor about second hand or even retro/antiques is that the furnishings can be more unique. For example, claw-foot tubs from the 19th century are a lot more comfortable and can be more affordable or at the same price level as what is selling today. How many home owners take into account being unique before going to their local big appliance store to pick things out?

It is also a great idea, perhaps not that original but certainly affordable, to ask about buying used models from appliance stores. Many times these, when removed from the model line, are put into storage. You could get a perfectly great set of appliances at half the price, that were really never used.

A penny saved is a penny earned; perhaps keeping this in mind before buying could help you afford a more expensive property, maybe even the one that you had your eye on but did not think was possible.
