What should you ask when you want to buy a home? There are several important things a home buyer should ask that they might not remember when they are making that crucial buying decision. Of course you ask about the obvious things you see; for example, are you going to fix the whole in the floor, the cracked ceiling paint, but what about the not so obvious that is just as if not more important. Does this property have a problem with flooding? Trust me, you don’t want to buy a home and put all your treasured belongings in it to only lose them later on. It doesn’t matter if your home is in a heavy rain area, if the foundation is not built to withstand any rain; this is something essential to think about. How is the sewer system? When was the last time it was property cleaned out/maintained? Are the electrical lines functioning well? Where are the underline lines, etc? Is there any easements? (an area where the government or private corporation has power) This can affect your decision making power or liability. Are there any fuel tanks nearby? Or any chemical hazards, dumps, etc? Is there a history of asbestos in the residence? Is there commercial zoning nearby, if so it could hinder any changes you would want to make to your home, or it could change the amount of inhabitants near you. Are there any community rules/regulations?
Or course, these are only some of the questions that many forget to ask, and there are definitely many many more. It is always helpful to visit many buyer advice sites in order to find out what everyone else is asking as well. Covering your bases is always the way to go, and it is your money regardless of whether you are planning to stay there for the long or short term.
