Home Depot is branching out! They have decided it is time to start attracting more female clientele. To this end, they will be opening two test stores in North Carolina and California. These new branches will be called Home Depot Design Centers. The head of their merchandising department, Jason Feldman, has said that it will have a very feminine shopping environment. Instead of the things traditionally found in its male counterpart (lumber, building material, pallets, soil bags, etc), these stores will have more show room type appeal. There will be a greater emphasis on home design with such things as pottery, out door furniture, and sleek kitchen appliances.
To help set the appropriate mood, the color of the Centers are also being done in earth tones (brown, gray, neutral) instead of the traditional deep orange of Home Dept.
The corporation hopes that with these changes they can now draw in both of the sexes and be more successful able to catch all the ends of the home renovation market. |
